[1829667]: use c_getch() to get input for all the new-game menus, since
they only get CK_* values (which c_getch(), but not getch(), returns
under Unix) and single-byte characters (which c_getch() and getch() can
handle as well as get_ch()); this is untested under Windows, but it
should work, since the tutorial code uses the same technique
